Privacy Policy

What we collect when you use ROOTS, how it is used, and your rights.

What we collect

When you submit an assessment, ROOTS stores the name of the place assessed, your declared relation to that place (resident, native, diaspora, or visitor), your eight dimension scores (0–10), and a timestamp. No personal identification is required — we do not ask for your name, email address, or any account information to submit an assessment.

If you use the contact form on the Contact page, we collect the information you choose to provide: your name, organization, email address, and message.

How it is used

Assessment data is aggregated per locality to power the public map, leaderboard, and locality pages. Individual assessments are visible via their unique shareable result link, but are not linked to any personal identity. Aggregated and individual data is used for research purposes by BÊMA, consistent with the goals described in our About and Research pages.

Contact form submissions are used only to respond to your inquiry and are not shared with third parties.

We do not sell data to third parties.

GDPR compliance

BÊMA, as a French association (loi 1901), processes data in line with the EU General Data Protection Regulation. Because assessments do not require personal identification, most data collected through ROOTS falls outside the scope of personal data. Where personal data is provided (e.g. via the contact form), you have the right to access, rectify, or request deletion of that data at any time.

Data retention

Assessment data is retained indefinitely as part of the collective atlas ROOTS aims to build, since its value depends on long-term accumulation and comparability over time. Contact form submissions are retained only as long as necessary to address the inquiry, unless a longer retention is required for an ongoing professional engagement.

Your rights & contact

For any question about this policy, or to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data you have submitted, write to contact@bemavision.org.
